Asia is far too diverse to encapsulate its many charms in a few paragraphs. The rapid development of countries such as China and Vietnam in the past decades make it more of a challenge to find remnants of history and culture but the tenacious searcher is well rewarded. Less developed nations are quickly catching up with Korea, Japan and Thailand and must be seen soon before what makes them so interesting is subsumed by the development of power plants, malls and the infrastructure needed to become efficient world economies.
India is a world of its own with some of the best food anywhere on the globe. Laos has the friendliest people and Cambodians – still recovering from the murderous Khmer Rouge – open their hearts to visitors. The Himalayas amaze, the Yangtze River consumes, Bali entrances and the Indian sub-continent overwhelms.
