The Kingdom of Swaziland, a small country surrounded by South Africa on three sides and Mozambique on the fourth, has experienced a lot of hardship since the mid-2000s. A trip there offers a glimpse in how African tribes governed for thousands of years before colonization by Europeans.
The main industry is forestry and where huge tree plantations (forest farms) are found planted in perfect rows. Craft markets featuring products created through women economic development projects provide one way to make money from articles made by hand including batik wall hangings and pillow covers, baskets and jewelry. While the prices are higher than at other craft markets, the items are all works of art, are unique and help the communities in which you buy.
Cabins are available in a state park created in the 1960s to end the slaughter of wild animals. The government has re-introduced a number of species that have successfully repopulated the park. There is a lot less wildlife here – compared to such places as Kruger National Park in South Africa – but it is possible to spot some kudu antelopes and vervet monkeys. The monkeys are beautiful, their population fairly widespread and what makes them so unique is their colorful appendage. With bright blue testicles and bright red penis, they are sure to catch the eye of breeding females.
